Treble Cone, Winter sports resort in Otago Region, New Zealand.
Treble Cone is a ski resort in the Otago region of New Zealand's South Island, situated near Lake Wanaka. The mountain offers groomed runs, open off-piste faces, and a main base area with lifts, a ski school, rental equipment, and food services.
The resort was founded in 1968 by a group of local ski enthusiasts who began by operating it as a small club field. Over the following decades, it opened to the general public and expanded its lifts and facilities to become one of the larger ski areas on the South Island.
Treble Cone has a strong following among snowboarders, as much of the terrain suits freestyle and off-piste riding. The open faces and natural features draw riders who prefer to move outside the groomed tracks.
The season generally runs from June to October, though snow conditions vary from year to year, so it is worth checking before you travel. A shuttle service connects the town of Wanaka to the base area, which makes it easy to reach the lifts without needing to park on the mountain road.
One of the South Island's longest groomed runs goes from High Street down to Triple Treat, with Lake Wanaka and Mount Aspiring visible for much of the descent. This makes it one of the few runs in New Zealand where the view stays open from top to bottom.
