Victoria Clock Tower, Clock tower in central Christchurch, New Zealand
The Victoria Clock Tower stands at the intersection of Victoria Street and Montreal Street, displaying four clock faces with wrought iron work and colored glass panels.
Manufactured in England during 1859, the tower was shipped to Christchurch in 147 packages and underwent multiple relocations before settling at its current position in 1930.
The structure commemorates Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee of 1897 and represents an enduring connection between Christchurch and its British colonial heritage.
The tower underwent extensive repairs and strengthening following the 2011 earthquake, with restoration work completed in October 2014 to ensure its continued operation.
The clock mechanism, initially too heavy for its intended location at the Provincial Council buildings, spent three years in a courtyard while its chimes rang from a separate tower.
