Erskine College, Wellington

The four-story brick and reinforced concrete building features high vaulted ceilings, Italian Carrara marble interiors, and structural embellishments throughout its design.

The Convent of the Sacred Heart, later renamed Erskine College, started construction in 1904 and opened its doors to students in early 1907.

The chapel served as an educational institution for Catholic girls until 1985, educating approximately 3000 students throughout its operational years.

The chapel underwent extensive restoration and reopened in 2023, while the main college building was demolished to accommodate 97 residential units.

The chapel interior contains remarkable acoustic properties that attracted performances by international musical groups, including multiple visits from the Vienna Boys Choir.
