Umupuia Beach, Public beach in Clevedon, New Zealand
The beach extends along the Pōhutukawa Coast, featuring a sandy shoreline bordered by coastal vegetation and native trees against a backdrop of rolling hills.
Thomas Duder purchased this coastal land from Ngāi Tai Maori owners in 1866, establishing a significant connection between European settlers and local communities.
The beach area maintains its traditional role as a gathering place for Ngāi Tai ki Tāmaki people, who continue their environmental stewardship practices.
Visitors can access the beach via North Road from Clevedon, with parking facilities available near the shoreline and walking paths connecting to Duder Regional Park.
The beach divides into two sections: a public access area and a private section above the high tide mark owned by Thomas Duder's descendants.
