Aurora Place, High-rise building in Sydney central business district, Australia.
Aurora Place is a 41-story high-rise in Sydney's central business district that rises 218 meters (715 feet) with a steel spire extending 75 meters (246 feet) along the north facade. The structure features winter gardens in the northwest and southeast corners that provide natural environments while overlooking Sydney Harbour and the botanical gardens.
The structure was completed in 2000 on the site of the former State Office Block and designed by acclaimed architect Renzo Piano. Lendlease developed the project, marking a significant transformation of this important central Sydney location.
The building houses one of Australia's largest corporate art collections, featuring works by artists including Kan Yasuda, Caio Fonseca, and Tim Prentice. Visitors can encounter these pieces in public areas, experiencing how the space functions as a contemporary art venue.
The building is easily visible from street level and offers different perspectives depending on your viewing location. The best time to appreciate the exterior architecture and take photographs is during clear daylight when the structure and its reflections are most distinct.
The east facade curves and widens from base to top, while sections of the glass wall extend beyond the main frame creating a floating visual effect. This design changes dramatically throughout the day as light and shadows shift across the surface.
