Chifley Tower, Office tower in Sydney, Australia
Chifley Tower is an office building in Sydney with 53 floors above ground and a height of 241 meters. Blue steel columns and red cross braces define its exterior, while seven internal atriums of varying heights create flexible workspace for financial and legal firms.
The building was completed in 1992 and was Sydney's tallest structure at that time. It held this status until 2020, when Crown Sydney exceeded its height.
The tower occupies Chifley Square, where a public plaza and large sculpture honor Ben Chifley, a former Australian Prime Minister. The space serves as a gathering point where office workers and visitors pause during their day.
The building has 29 elevators and is most accessible to visitors during business hours when office spaces are active. Those wishing to see the plaza can access it from the street at any time.
The building contains a 400-ton steel pendulum suspended by eight wires near the rooftop. This system prevents the tower from swaying excessively during strong wind gusts.
