Suncorp Place is a 48-story skyscraper in Sydney's central business district, standing about 193 meters tall. Its facade is made up of floor-to-ceiling glass panels that run along the full height of the building, framing views of Sydney Harbour and the city around it.
The tower was originally built as the Qantas International Centre, and construction stretched over nearly a decade due to interruptions along the way. It was completed in the early 1980s, at a time when Sydney was actively reshaping its downtown skyline.
Many people in Sydney still associate this tower with Qantas, the airline that originally occupied it and gave it its first name. Today it serves as a busy office building, and its ground-floor area connects directly to the street life of the central business district.
The building sits at the heart of the central business district and is easy to reach on foot from nearby train and bus stops. Since it operates as a private office tower, public access is limited to the entrance areas on the ground floor.
The office floors were designed without any internal load-bearing columns, which was technically unusual for a tower of this size at the time. This meant that each floor could be arranged in almost any configuration, giving tenants a degree of flexibility that was rare in the 1980s.
