Johnson's Building, The Rocks

Johnson's Building is a six-story structure in Federation Free Style with narrow pilasters and tall windows that emphasize vertical lines along George Street. The building features distinctive two-story bay windows and a central arcade with arched passageways connecting the lower and upper sections.

Completed in 1912 under architect Walter Liberty Vernon's design, the building began as a mixed-use space serving retail and office purposes. The façade of local sandstone has been preserved through the decades as the interior uses changed to accommodate modern commercial needs.

The building connects Sydney's past with its present-day business life, showing how the district has evolved while keeping its character and purpose alive.
