Woodstock

Woodstock is an Italianate mansion in Burwood built between 1866 and 1873. The building displays symmetrical facades with decorative cornices, arched windows, and a pronounced entrance portico.

Edwin Thomas Penfold built the estate as a statement of wealth from his tobacco business and goldfield ventures. The building later transitioned through military and residential uses before becoming a community facility.

The house shows traces of the Keep family's personal touch through their alterations to rooms and architectural details. Visitors can observe how different owners shaped the building across generations.

Access is through the main entrance portico, and tours can be arranged with the Burwood Council administration. Check opening times in advance as the house is not continuously open to the public.

The Keep family left their mark through architectural changes, including a distinctive skylight that shapes the interior spaces. These personal modifications show how individual residents adapted the historic building to suit their needs.
