Glenmore Hotel, Heritage hotel in The Rocks, Australia.
The Glenmore Hotel is a heritage-listed hotel in The Rocks, Sydney, spread across three levels with distinct spaces for different purposes. The ground floor holds a public bar, the middle level features a cocktail bar, and the top offers a rooftop terrace with a retractable roof for year-round use.
The hotel was designed and built in 1921 by architect D.M. Mitchell and replaced an earlier structure demolished during Sydney Harbour Bridge construction. This reconstruction was part of the modernization that The Rocks underwent in that decade.
The building displays Georgian Revival architecture from the interwar period with symmetrical facades and face brick walls that reflect early 20th-century Australian construction practices. These design choices remain a defining feature of The Rocks neighborhood.
The location is easy to access on foot along Cumberland Street in the heart of The Rocks neighborhood. The retractable roof allows the rooftop terrace to function year-round, and multiple function rooms can accommodate private gatherings or dining occasions.
From the rooftop terrace you get direct views of Sydney Harbour and the Opera House without any compromise to the building's 1920s character. This rare mix of historic charm and modern comfort creates something worth discovering beyond the typical bar visit.
