The settlement, established in 1814 as The Weatherboard, received its current name in 1879 in recognition of the explorer William Charles Wentworth.
The Kings Tableland contains Aboriginal archaeological sites of the Gandangara, Darug, and Wiradjuri peoples, with evidence dating back 22,000 years.
The Wentworth Falls railway station connects to the Main Western line, while the town center lies 8 kilometers east of Katoomba along the Great Western Highway.
