The Abbey, Annandale, Gothic mansion in Annandale, Australia.

The Abbey is a Gothic-style residence with about 50 rooms distributed across multiple levels, topped by a distinctive tower. The interior features hand-painted wall panels and intricate timber work throughout its architectural details.

The house was built in 1882 by John Young, a principal builder of St. Mary's Cathedral, as a personal residence. He constructed it with the goal of bringing his wife back from England.

The building displays Masonic symbols woven into its design, reflecting the original owner's connection to the Freemasons during the Victorian period. You can spot these symbols throughout the rooms if you look carefully at the architectural details.

Entry is through the front gate area, from where visitors can explore the various floors and rooms. The structure has steep stairs and multiple levels that require reasonable physical mobility to navigate fully.

During the 1960s and 1970s, a resident physician named Geoffrey Davis frequently hosted social gatherings here. The property became known as a destination for such events during those decades.
