Capita Centre, Office building in Sydney, Australia
The Capita Centre is a modern high-rise office building in Sydney's central business district that rises 183 meters tall with 31 floors. The building houses more than 24,000 square meters of office space distributed across its multiple levels.
Construction took place between 1984 and 1989 under architect Harry Seidler's direction, with the building initially serving as headquarters for City Mutual Life Assurance Society. After its completion, the structure became an important part of Sydney's downtown landscape.
The lobby features a porcelain mural created by Lin Utzon that gives the entrance hall its distinctive character. A sculpture by Charles O Perry adds another layer of artistic expression to the interior.
The building is located at Castlereagh Street in central Sydney and is easily accessible by public transport. Visitors can view the lobby and interior atrium during business hours, though it is advisable to check ahead about access.
A distinctive feature is the open-air atrium that runs through the entire height of the building and contains planted recesses. This vertical garden with trees and shrubs at different levels creates an unexpected green space within the modern structure.
