Trickett's Hotel, Heritage hotel in Sydney, Australia
Trickett's Hotel is located at the intersection of Pitt, Hunter, and O'Connell Streets, a twelve-story building with reinforced concrete construction and marble finishes throughout the interior. A central light court runs through all levels down to the basement, providing natural light to the commercial spaces and guest areas.
The building was designed between 1922 and 1929 by architects Manson & Pickering and originally served as offices for The Sydney Morning Herald newspaper. Later it housed the Bank of New South Wales before becoming part of the Radisson Blu hotel chain.
The building displays Interwar Commercial architecture with Italian Renaissance influences that fit naturally into Sydney's business district from that era. The marble interiors and careful design reflected the prosperity and ambitions of the business community at that time.
The building is located near Sydney's Central Business District and is easy to reach by public transport. Its central location at the intersection of multiple streets makes it simple to find and access other nearby attractions.
The building was designed from the start with an innovative central light court extending to the basement, an unusual lighting solution for its time. This design feature shows how the architect connected practical needs with thoughtful aesthetics.
