Trust Building, Heritage office building in central business district, Sydney, Australia.
Trust Building is a 12-story office structure with three basement levels featuring stone exterior walls and a steel mansard roof at 72 Castlereagh Street. The building serves its original commercial purpose in Sydney's central business district.
Architects Robertson & Marks designed the structure in 1914 for The Daily Telegraph newspaper, which operated printing presses in the basement. This newspaper operation ceased in 1929, marking a shift in the building's commercial use.
The building displays Interwar Commercial Palazzo style with Art Deco elements visible in its banking chambers, foyers, and corridors. These design touches shape how the spaces feel and function for people who move through them today.
The building sits in the heart of the business district and is easily reached on foot. Keep in mind this is an active office building, so visitor access may be limited to public areas or exterior viewing.
The exterior combines rock-faced trachyte base courses with Pyrmont sandstone upper floors, representing a rare surviving example from the Edwardian commercial era. This material choice reflects early construction techniques rarely seen in buildings of this age.
