Dee Why

Dee Why is a suburb on Sydney's northern coast and serves as the administrative center for the region. The area spreads around Dee Why Lagoon and offers a mix of residential neighborhoods, shopping districts, and green spaces.

The area was first documented in 1815 by surveyor James Meehan, which later led to land grants being given to the Jenkins family. This early settlement shaped the place's development and laid the groundwork for its growth.

The area shows signs of Aboriginal occupation through preserved midden sites and historical fishing places near Dee Why Lagoon. These locations tell the story of people who lived here long before European settlement.

The commercial district runs along Pittwater Road with multiple shopping centers and good bus connections. The B-Line buses connect this place regularly with Sydney city center.

Dee Why Lagoon has been a protected wildlife refuge since 1973 and provides habitat for local and migratory bird species. This body of water is an important resting place for migratory birds on their journey along the coast.
