Tenterfield Post Office, Heritage post office in Tenterfield, Australia
Tenterfield Post Office is a red brick building with a three-story clock tower topped by a mansard roof in Tenterfield, New South Wales. A single-story colonnade with arched openings frames the street-level entrance.
The building was constructed between 1881 and 1892 in Victorian Italianate style. The Colonial Architect's Office under James Barnet designed it, while T. & J. McGuaran carried out the construction work.
This New South Wales State Heritage Register site stands as a testament to public architecture of the 1880s with its Tuscan pilasters and cast iron details.
The post office stands on Rouse Street and continues to serve the community with mail services. Visitors can see both a functioning facility and a significant example of 1880s public architecture.
Each of the four sides of the clock tower displays a timepiece, allowing the time to be read from any direction. Above the mansard roof sits an enclosed viewing platform surrounded by cast iron railings.
