Yuraygir National Park, Coastal nature reserve in New South Wales, Australia
Yuraygir National Park is a coastal nature reserve in New South Wales featuring dramatic cliffs, rocky headlands, and remote beaches throughout its length. The landscape also includes heath and wetland areas that create diverse habitats within the protected zone.
The protected area was established to preserve one of New South Wales' longest stretches of undeveloped coastline. This decision came from a desire to keep this section of coast free from development and construction.
The name comes from the Gumbaynggirr language and means 'place of water'. Visitors can discover sites that held deep significance for the Aboriginal people who lived here.
The park has several entry points with parking areas distributed along the coast at different locations. Visiting outside the hottest summer months offers more comfortable walking conditions.
The area supports an unusually high diversity of rare plant species that thrive only along this particular coastline. Some of these plants exist nowhere else in Australia and are found only within this reserve.
