Gas Stripping Tower

The Gas Stripping Tower is a preserved industrial structure made of steel and stone that was used to clean gas in the early decades of the 20th century. The structure is tall and narrow, with visible internal parts that show how water sprayed the gas during processing.

The structure was built in 1912 by a British company from Yorkshire and supplied gas to the growing city. After the Second World War, new technologies ended this method of gas production.

The tower shows how people in the city used gas in the early 1900s and what equipment was needed for it. The industrial structure shapes how visitors understand the technical history of this neighborhood.

The tower sits in Davies Park and is easy to reach on foot since it stands in a public green space. The location is open during the day and offers clear views of the structure from all sides.

This is the only example of this type of gas cleaning technology that remains standing in Australia. The structure was overlooked for several decades before it was restored during a city-wide renewal effort.
