Gas Stripping Tower, Industrial heritage site in West End, Brisbane, Australia
The Gas Stripping Tower stands 21 meters tall with a 3.5-meter diameter, featuring internal baffles and a water spray system for gas purification.
Built in 1912 by Robert Dempster & Sons Ltd from Yorkshire, the tower served the South Brisbane Gas & Light Company until technological changes in 1949.
The structure represents early 20th-century industrial engineering, demonstrating the evolution of gas production methods in Australian urban development.
Visitors can find the preserved tower at 277 Montague Road in Davies Park, approximately 150 meters from its original construction location.
The Gas Stripping Tower remains the sole surviving example of this industrial technology in Australia, following its restoration during Brisbane's 1988 bicentennial.
