Jacob's Ladder, Brisbane, Public stairway in Spring Hill, Brisbane, Australia

Jacob's Ladder consists of 86 concrete steps divided into 10 flights with three landing areas, connecting Edward Street to Wickham Terrace.

The concrete steps were constructed in 1920 to replace a steep pathway, within a recreational reserve that was officially designated as King Edward Park in 1911.

The name Jacob's Ladder references the Biblical stairway to Heaven, representing the steep ascent from Brisbane's central business district to Spring Hill.

The staircase functions as the shortest pedestrian route between Brisbane's business district and Spring Hill, making it valuable for daily commuters.

In 1928, a Whippet motor car drove up the entire length of these steep stairs, creating a notable photographic moment in the structure's history.
