Sunshine Coast

Sunshine Coast is a coastal area in Queensland spanning roughly 60 miles and encompassing several beach towns and communities. The coastline alternates between sheltered bays, open sandy beaches, and rocky sections, while inland green hills and farmland shape the landscape.

The Gubbi Gubbi and Wakka Wakka inhabited this coast long before European arrival in the late 18th century. Settlement accelerated in the 20th century with infrastructure construction and the promotion of coastal tourism.

The region today combines beach culture with agricultural traditions from the hinterland, with local produce sold in coastal towns. Many residents maintain a relaxed lifestyle guided by the natural rhythm of sea and land.

Individual towns are connected by roads, with visitors often moving between different beaches and hinterland areas. A car makes travel easier, as public transport is limited in some parts and distances between centers can be considerable.

Several protected natural parks lie scattered between coastal towns, offering walking trails and waterfalls within short distance of the sea. These parks preserve rainforest areas that contrast with the beach landscape and are often surprisingly quiet.
