Dalgety Offices, Townsville

Dalgety Offices is a two-story office building made from reinforced concrete with large windows that bring natural light into the interior spaces. The structure contains multiple office areas and features a ventilation system specifically designed for the region's tropical climate.

The structure was built between 1923 and 1925 under architect William Hornby Turner as the main office for Dalgety & Co Ltd. It rose during a period of strong economic growth in Queensland and became an important part of the city's business history.

The building shows how businesses in the 1920s wanted to work in this region and what mattered to them in their architecture. The spaces and their design tell of the demands that working in a tropical location created.

The building sits on Sturt Street in Townsville's downtown area and is easy to reach on foot. Since it holds heritage status with restricted access, it is wise to check opening times ahead of your visit, as not all areas may be open to the public.

Over the years the structure went through several transformations and was later converted into a three-story shopping complex. A residential tower called The Dalgety was added next to it afterward, which significantly changed the character of the original site.
