Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena, Indoor sports arena in University Park, Los Angeles, US

The Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena was located next to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in University Park and provided seating for 16,161 people at different types of events. The building had an oval shape with stands surrounding a central floor that could be adapted for basketball, ice hockey, boxing matches, and other gatherings.

The building opened on July 4th 1959, when Vice President Richard Nixon dedicated it to veterans of the United States armed forces. The arena closed in 2016 and was later torn down to make room for new sports facilities.

The name honored members of the United States armed forces, and the arena served as a gathering place for basketball games and boxing matches that drew crowds from across Los Angeles. During political rallies and athletic events, people came together to witness moments that shaped their city and country.

The arena stood in University Park next to the Coliseum and could be reached by car or public transport. The building no longer exists, but the site remains part of an important sports district in Los Angeles.

Muhammad Ali fought his first major professional bout here in November 1962 against Archie Moore, beginning his rise in boxing. The Democratic Party convention also took place in this building in 1960, when John F. Kennedy received the presidential nomination.
