Exposition Park, Public park in South Los Angeles, US
Exposition Park is a green space in South Los Angeles that combines sports facilities, cultural institutions, and recreational areas between two major thoroughfares. The site spans 160 acres with several building complexes, lawns, and a central rose garden.
The site served from 1872 as fairgrounds for agricultural exhibitions with horse racing track. Following a citizens' initiative, the grounds were transformed in 1909 into a park with gardens and cultural buildings.
The grounds offer access to institutions that display scientific collections, African American art, and aerospace technology, including a Space Shuttle exhibit. Visitors can walk through public garden areas where families gather for picnics and leisure activities on weekends.
Metro E and J lines stop within walking distance at the northern edge of the grounds. The entire site is freely accessible, while individual facilities maintain their own opening hours and entry conditions.
The Olympic Swim Stadium on the grounds served as the venue for aquatic competitions at three Olympic Games. The track at Memorial Coliseum is one of the few still-operating Olympic tracks from the early 20th century.
