Boyle Hotel – Cummings Block, Victorian hotel in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles, United States
Boyle Hotel is a four-story building in Queen Anne style with a corner turret, cast-iron storefront columns, and a grand interior staircase at the intersection of First Street. The renovated structure contains fifty-one affordable housing units and three commercial spaces on the ground floor.
The building was completed in 1889 and was the tallest structure in Boyle Heights at that time. It served the community as a central meeting place for gatherings and social activities for many years.
The ground floor houses a Mariachi Cultural Center where local musicians gather and keep their musical heritage alive. This space serves as a meeting point for those who perform and teach the traditional music of the region.
The building is easily accessible from the street and sits at a busy intersection. Visitors can admire the architecture from outside and explore the Mariachi Cultural Center on the ground floor according to its opening times.
A major rehabilitation project between 2013 and 2014 transformed this historic landmark into residences while preserving all exterior details. The effort cost approximately 24.6 million dollars and shows how historic buildings can be saved while meeting modern housing needs.
