Los Angeles County+USC Medical Center, 600-bed academic hospital in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles, US
Los Angeles County+USC Medical Center is a 600-bed academic hospital in Boyle Heights composed of three connected towers for clinics, diagnostics, and inpatient care. The campus spreads across multiple floors and the towers rise above the surrounding streets of the neighborhood.
The center began in 1878 as a 100-bed facility on Mission Road and partnered with USC Medical School in 1885. Over the decades it grew into one of the largest public hospitals on the West Coast.
The clinic uses the Spanish name Hospital General de Los Angeles and welcomes families from neighborhoods where multiple languages are spoken daily. Many patients arrive from nearby communities that have roots in Latin America and staff members often switch between English and Spanish throughout the day.
Visitors can view results, medications, and appointments through the digital portal LA Health. Each tower lobby offers signage and information desks to guide patients and companions to the right floors.
The center trains more than 1000 medical residents each year and operates a Navy Trauma Training Center for military medical personnel. Many Navy surgeons practice here before deploying on ships or in combat zones.
