Pomona, Charter city in Los Angeles County, United States
Pomona is a city in Los Angeles County in western California, located between the Inland Empire and the San Gabriel Valley in the Pomona Valley. The streets run through residential areas with low-rise homes, commercial districts, and parks, with terrain ranging from flatlands to gentle hills.
Settlement began in the 1830s when Ricardo Véjar and Ygnacio Palomares received the land under Mexican administration and established a ranch. After the transition to the United States, agriculture and livestock drove growth, and the area later gained city status.
The city is home to Cal Poly Pomona, a technical university whose campus spreads across the hills and blends into urban life. On weekends, regular car shows and equestrian events take place at the fairgrounds, drawing visitors from across the region.
The city sits near several highways that allow access from different directions, with the drive from Los Angeles taking about an hour. The climate is dry and sunny with hot summers, so visiting in spring or fall is more comfortable.
The Adobe de Palomares from 1855 stands as the oldest building within city limits and shows the adobe construction from the Mexican ranch era. Nearby, some old orange trees still grow, recalling the earlier fruit plantations of the region.
