Redlands Bowl, Open-air amphitheater in Redlands, United States
Redlands Bowl is an outdoor theater within the Smiley Park Historic District that can hold about 5,000 people. The venue features bench seating with backs and grassy areas where audiences watch performances under the open sky.
Grace Stewart Mullen, a Redlands resident, founded the Redlands Community Music Association in 1923 and launched the first concert season in Smiley Park. The Prosellis stage was built in 1929 to support this mission and has shaped the venue's character ever since.
The venue hosts a summer festival with about 18 to 20 musical events from June through August, presenting classical, dance, and theatrical performances to local audiences. The outdoor setting allows people to experience live entertainment while sitting in a historic park.
Visitors can park for free at the Redlands Mall lot and nearby streets, with accessible spaces on Eureka Street. It helps to arrive early to get a good seat, especially during the summer events when crowds are larger.
The stage building was designed by architect Herbert Powell in 1929 and features a verse from Proverbs 29:18 carved into its upper section. Its design echoes the architectural style found in the nearby A.K. Smiley Public Library.
