Barton Villa, Historic villa in Redlands, United States.
Barton Villa is a residence in Redlands located on Nevada Street with two stories of fired brick and a mansard roof. The building combines simpler early styles with more elaborate French design elements and sits on grounds with several structures.
The house was built in 1866 and 1867 and was the first structure in Redlands made entirely from fired brick. In the decades that followed, it received more elaborate architectural features that brought its style up to date.
The house shows how wealthy families of the 1800s chose to design their homes and what materials they valued. Walking through the rooms and grounds reveals their way of life and what mattered to them.
Visiting happens through organized guided tours that let you see both the inside and outside at your own pace. Plan enough time to walk the multi-acre grounds and see the different areas on the property.
The building contains more than 120,000 oversized bricks that were kiln-dried at a local facility. Using such a large quantity of brick was unusual for the area and shows the owner's commitment to solid construction.
