Reche Canyon

Reche Canyon is a valley that runs through the northwestern foothills of the San Jacinto Mountains, dividing between San Bernardino County and Riverside County at its center. The roadway through it creates a direct passage through these geographical areas connecting separate regions.

Anthony Reche, a settler from the Gold Rush era, moved to this valley in 1875 and established a farm and beekeeping operation. The area was previously known by another name rooted in the Tongva people who lived there long before his arrival.

The canyon gained local attention through a wildlife encounter when two residents eliminated a large rattlesnake in the area during the early 1900s. This incident reflects the untamed character of the terrain and the real hazards settlers had to manage.
