Centennial Hall, Performance venue at University of Arizona, United States
Centennial Hall is a performance venue on the University of Arizona campus in Tucson, with seating for around 2,500 people. The hall has a wide stage that can accommodate large touring productions as well as concerts and dance performances.
The building opened in 1937 and was from the start the largest performance space on campus. Over the following decades, renovations brought the stage and technical equipment up to date without changing the overall character of the hall.
Centennial Hall sits on the University of Arizona campus and draws both students and Tucson residents to its shows. The program covers classical music, jazz, dance, and touring productions, giving the hall a role in the city's artistic life that goes beyond the university itself.
The hall sits near the center of campus and can be reached on foot from the surrounding streets and parking areas. Arriving a little early is a good idea for popular shows, since the entrances can get crowded just before curtain time.
In 2006, a single musical production ran for six weeks at the hall, drawing audiences over a stretch of time that was then the longest engagement in Tucson for a touring show. That kind of extended run is very rare for a venue of this size.
