The trail to North Franklin Mountain begins at the Tom Mays Unit of Franklin Mountains State Park, requiring a $4 entrance fee for visitors aged 13 and older.
From 1909 to 1915, the northeast slope contained the only tin mine in the United States, though the operation ended without commercial success.
