Izalco

The district of Izalco extends over 175.9 square kilometers of land with elevations reaching 389 meters above sea level in western El Salvador.

Between 900 AD and 1500 AD, Pipil people established settlements in this region, creating a center for cacao production and trading activities.

Local residents communicate in both Spanish and Nahuatl languages, maintaining connections to their indigenous heritage through traditional practices and celebrations.

The district contains urban areas with a population of 19,197 residents, while the total population reaches 82,332 across both city and rural sections.

The Church Dolores de Izalco, constructed before 1570, stands as an architectural landmark incorporating classical design elements near the volcanic terrain.
