La Paz Department spans 2,534 square kilometers of territory, containing 19 municipalities and 116 villages across central Honduras.
The department emerged in 1869 when authorities separated portions of land from the existing Comayagua department to establish a new administrative division.
The population of 206,065 residents includes a majority of Mestizo inhabitants, along with Lenca indigenous communities maintaining their traditional practices.
The department's agricultural sector focuses on coffee production, with numerous processing facilities and distribution centers operating throughout the region.
The department maintains an elevation of 750 meters above sea level, featuring dense jungle coverage and sections of the Cordillera de Montecillos mountain range.
