The Planetarium of Medellín is a science facility in the center of Medellín, featuring a domed theater, a reference library, and instruments for observing the night sky. Inside, several areas cover different topics related to astronomy and space science, making it a complete learning destination.
The facility opened on October 10, 1984, and was the first in South America to use computer-controlled systems for its astronomical presentations. This approach changed the way science institutions across the continent designed their programs.
Schools from across the city bring students here regularly, making it one of the most visited science spaces in Medellín for young people. The shows are designed for a general audience, so no prior knowledge of astronomy is needed to enjoy them.
Shows take place during the day, so a morning or early afternoon visit gives you the best chance of catching the full program. The building is accessible to visitors with mobility needs and has clear signage throughout.
