Museum of Contemporary Art and Design, Modern art museum in Carmen district, San Jose, Costa Rica
The Museum of Contemporary Art and Design occupies 1,200 square meters with four exhibition rooms, an auditorium, and an open-air performance space.
The building transformed from a national liquor factory established in 1856 into a contemporary art museum that opened its doors in 1994.
The permanent collection contains more than 900 artworks, including paintings, sculptures, photographs, and video installations from Central American creators.
The museum welcomes visitors Monday through Saturday from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM, offering guided tours and access to its documentation center.
The Pila de la Melaza space, formerly used in liquor production, now serves as an outdoor theater for art performances and cultural events.
