Tibás Canton, Administrative canton in San José Province, Costa Rica
Tibás Canton is an administrative district in San José Province shaped like a triangle and covering about 8 square kilometers. The Virilla River forms its boundary while steep canyons surround the territory.
This canton was established in 1914 and was originally called San Juan del Murciélago, reflecting its early importance. The sitting president Braulio Carrillo once considered it as a potential capital location.
The Municipal Council consists of seven elected regidores who work alongside the mayor to manage local governance and community development programs.
The area connects well to National Routes 5, 32, and 100, making it easy to reach by road. The Interurbano Line also provides rail transportation as an alternative way to get around.
