La Paz Waterfall, 37-meter waterfall in Sarapiquí, Costa Rica

La Paz Waterfall is a roughly 37-meter cascade set in the mountains of Sarapiquí, Costa Rica. The water drops over volcanic rock surrounded by dense rainforest on all sides.

The waterfall was known only to people living nearby for most of its history. A nature park built around it in the early 2000s opened it to a broader audience and drew attention to conservation in the region.

The name La Paz means "the peace" in Spanish, and it describes how most visitors feel when they stand near the water. Local guides walk with groups through the forest, pointing out plants and animals along the trail.

Access is through maintained trails inside a park that provides guides and basic facilities for visitors. Sturdy shoes are a good idea, as the paths move through forest with uneven ground and some elevation changes.

La Paz is not a single waterfall but part of a chain of five cascades that drop one after another down the same slope. Each level produces a different pattern of water depending on how it hits the rock below.
