Estadio Rommel Fernández, football stadium
Estadio Rommel Fernández is a multi-purpose stadium in Panama City, part of the Irving Saladino Sports City. Its white facade of horizontal panels bears the name "ROMMEL FERNÁNDEZ GUTIÉRREZ" in red capital letters above three dark entrances. Inside, curved rows of grey and beige seats surround a green grass pitch and a blue running track with a long jump sandpit and high jump frame.
Built with loans under Omar Torrijos Herrera for the 1970 Central American and Caribbean Games, it opened on 6 February 1970 as Estadio Revolución. On 4 April 1976 Panama beat Costa Rica 3–2 there in its first World Cup qualifying run. Renamed in 1993 for Rommel Fernández, it was rebuilt from 2006 to 2010 and again between September 2023 and June 2024.
The stadium sits in the Irving Saladino Sports City in Panama City, with a paved plaza and brick walkway leading to the three red-framed entrances under the "Rommel Fernández Gutiérrez" lettering. The athletics track and jump pits lie between the stands and the hybrid grass pitch, so spectators in the lower rows are close to the track. Access is by public transport; check match days before travelling.
