Costa del Este, Coastal neighborhood in Panama City, Panama.
Costa del Este is a modern coastal neighborhood in Panama City that spans hundreds of hectares along the Pacific Ocean, defined by tall office buildings, apartment complexes, and shopping areas. The district is connected by a long waterfront promenade that links different zones for business, housing, and commerce.
This neighborhood grew from land that served as a material storage area during the Panama Canal construction in the early 1900s. The area began its transformation into a modern residential and commercial district starting in 1995, marking a major shift in its purpose.
The neighborhood reflects religious diversity through the San Lucas Evangelista Catholic Church and the Congregation Kol Shearith Israel synagogue that stand side by side. Both houses of worship shape the local character and show how different communities share the space.
The neighborhood sits about 12 kilometers from Tocumen International Airport and connects to downtown through the Southern Corridor expressway. The area spreads out considerably, so having transportation is helpful for getting around and seeing different parts of it.
A four-kilometer boardwalk runs along the Pacific shoreline and gives residents and visitors direct access to the water's edge. The promenade is lined with restaurants, cafés, and viewpoints, making it a popular spot for walking, jogging, and watching the ocean.
