The Botanical Garden of Mérida extends across 44 hectares at 1,800 meters elevation on the southeast side of Sierra Nevada de Mérida mountains.
The University of the Andes established this botanical garden in 1991, with its public opening taking place on December 8, 2002.
The garden functions as an educational center where visitors learn about the native plant species of the Venezuelan Andes through guided tours and exhibitions.
Visitors can explore different zones within the garden, including a native pine forest and specialized areas featuring diverse plant collections.
The garden houses South America's largest collection of bromelias, containing over 100 species and approximately 600 individual plants.
