Parque Zoológico Chorros de Milla, Zoological park in Mérida, Venezuela
Parque Zoológico Chorros de Milla is a zoo situated on mountain slopes along the Río Milla in Mérida, displaying native Venezuelan animals including jaguars, condors, anacondas, capybaras, and monkeys. The facility integrates artificial lagoons with natural waterfalls throughout its grounds and features more than 2000 plant species across the terrain.
The zoo was established in 1958 as a conservation center for local wildlife species. Partnership with the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo supported staff training and the growth of visitor education programs.
The zoo functions as an educational facility where visitors learn about Venezuelan ecosystems through exhibits of jaguars, condors, anacondas, capybaras, and various monkey species.
The site occupies mountain slopes with varying elevations, so visitors should prepare for walking uphill and downhill throughout the grounds. Wearing comfortable shoes and bringing water is advisable since the facilities are spread across the terrain.
The natural waterfalls of the Milla River flow directly into the artificial lagoons, creating a rare blend of natural features and human design within the park. This arrangement allows animals to inhabit environments that closely resemble their native habitats.
