Bararida Zoological and Botanical Park, Zoo and botanical garden in Barquisimeto, Venezuela.
Bararida Zoological and Botanical Park is an 18.5-hectare space in Barquisimeto that houses over 3,500 animals representing around 185 species, including mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and fish. The grounds also feature approximately 150 plant species and include a central lagoon, boat access points, and a dining facility.
The area was designated as a reforestation zone in 1939 and later became the foundation for this facility. Its official opening as a zoological garden took place in 1967, marking the start of its role as a place for education and animal protection.
The central amphitheater hosts regular performances and educational activities for children during school breaks, promoting environmental awareness through entertainment. People of all ages gather there to learn about nature and conservation efforts in an informal way.
Visitors can explore the central lagoon using pedal boats while observing different habitats and animals throughout the grounds. The on-site restaurant offers traditional Venezuelan food and provides a good place to rest between exploration.
The park houses a remarkable collection where roughly two-thirds of the animal species are classified as endangered, making it an important site for protection efforts. This concentration on threatened animals makes the grounds a focal point for conservation programs in the region.
