Chimalhuacán, Archaeological site in Chimalhuacán, Mexico.

Chimalhuacán is an archaeological site in Mexico with palace structures spanning multiple periods. The buildings display features from Teotihuacan, Toltec, and Alcohua cultures, including ceremonial rooms and residential areas.

The settlement was founded around 1200 by three Chichimeca leaders and later became a tributary city of Texcoco. Its position at the crossroads of different cultures shaped its long development.

The site's name derives from a local deity, and the layout reveals how different civilizations merged their building styles in this place. Visitors can observe how these contrasting architectural approaches coexist across the structures.

The site is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 to 17, with access via Pochotes Street in the San Andrés neighborhood. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes, as exploring the scattered structures requires walking across the grounds.

Excavations here uncovered human remains dated to 10,500 years ago, known as the Chimalhuacán Man. Together with mammoth bones from 10,000 years ago, these discoveries show the location was inhabited since the Ice Age.
