Centro Coyoacán, Shopping center in Coyoacán, Mexico City, Mexico
Centro Coyoacán was a modern shopping complex in Mexico City with two levels and multiple retail spaces located between key streets in the neighborhood. It offered a typical mall experience with various retail chains and anchor stores serving local shoppers.
The shopping center opened in 1989 as a new retail venture by the El Palacio de Hierro department store chain. It remained in operation for more than 30 years before its closure in 2022 to make way for redevelopment projects.
The shopping center served as a gathering place for the neighborhood and shaped how locals thought of Coyoacán as a modern commercial area. Its closing marked the end of an era for residents who had used it for everyday shopping needs.
The location was accessible via Coyoacán metro station, making it easy to reach by public transportation from other parts of the city. The central position in the neighborhood made it a convenient destination for local shoppers.
The center closed in 2022, and its site is now occupied by the Mítikah complex, which includes Mexico City's tallest skyscraper. This transformation shows how quickly the neighborhood's character can change.
