Alfredo Guati Rojo National Watercolor Museum, Watercolor art museum in Coyoacán, Mexico
The museum displays 300 watercolor paintings in seven chronologically arranged rooms, showcasing artistic evolution from pre-Hispanic times to modern works.
Founded by artist Alfredo Guati Rojo in 1964, the museum relocated to Coyoacán in 1987 after its original location in Colonia Roma was destroyed by an earthquake.
The museum organizes the International Biennial of Watercolors, bringing together artists and collectors to celebrate this painting technique through exhibitions and competitions.
Located at 88 Salvador Novo Street in Santa Catarina neighborhood, the museum opens Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00 with free admission.
This institution holds the distinction of being the first museum worldwide dedicated exclusively to watercolor art, preserving and promoting this specific painting technique.
