Escuela Nacional Preparatoria 6 "Antonio Caso", Escuela de la UNAM
The Escuela Nacional Preparatoria 6 is a public secondary school in Coyoacán, Mexico City, founded in 1959 and part of the UNAM network. The building occupies a former colonial mansion from the 18th century and contains a library with around 600 books, a cultural center for music and theater performances, and sports facilities and science laboratories.
The school was established in 1959 and relocated to its present location in Coyoacán in 1964. It received the name Antonio Caso in 1968 in honor of the influential philosopher who advocated for university freedom and critical thinking.
The school is named after Antonio Caso, a Mexican philosopher who championed freedom of thought and university independence. Students and staff participate in concerts, theater performances, and art exhibitions held throughout the year.
The school sits in a quiet residential area with small cafes and shops nearby that students and residents frequent. Its location in Coyoacán allows easy access to museums, theaters, and bookstores, offering learning opportunities outside the classroom.
The school operates a weather station that students observe and maintain, with collected data sent to a science center for analysis. This gives students hands-on experience in meteorology and environmental science.
