Jilotepec de Abasolo, Administrative seat in State of Mexico, Mexico
Jilotepec de Abasolo is a municipality in northwestern Mexico within the State of Mexico, situated in a highland region with mixed urban and rural structure. It comprises several smaller towns and villages connected by agricultural land and local transportation routes.
The area was established as an independent municipality in 1824 after separating from Huichapan. This separation also incorporated territory from neighboring Chapa de Mota and Villa del Carbón.
The town displays its indigenous roots through local markets where artisans and farmers gather to sell their goods. People use these spaces to keep traditions alive and maintain their community bonds.
The municipality connects to Mexico City and Toluca through major highways, with regular bus routes serving these centers. Visitors should expect milder temperatures in spring and autumn, making these the best seasons for exploring.
Fish farms in the area focus on raising charal, a small freshwater fish that holds economic importance locally. This fish is central to traditional diets and makes the region a hub for this specialized fishing practice.
