The building housing the museum originated as a Franciscan monastery in 1590, later transforming into a regional museum upon its establishment in 1952.
The exhibition halls present objects from multiple indigenous civilizations, including Olmec, Totonacan, and Mixtec cultures, illustrating regional heritage through artifacts.
Located in Plaza Aranzazú within the Historic Center, the museum operates Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM with reduced rates for students.
The upper floor contains the Capilla de Aranzazú, an 18th-century private chapel decorated in gold and aqua, where new monks received their ordination.
