Copano Bay Fishing Pier, Former recreational fishing pier
The Copano Bay Fishing Pier is a fishing pier extending into the bay in Aransas County, Texas. It features lighting for daytime and nighttime fishing, designated areas for cleaning fish after a catch, and a walkway designed for safe and easy access over the water.
The pier was built in 1967 after the Texas State Highway Department reshaped the old causeway to improve boat traffic. The state then transferred the structure to the Parks and Wildlife Commission, which converted it into a fishing destination.
The pier is a social gathering spot where anglers share fishing tips and stories with one another. You will find families and locals who come to enjoy the simple connection to the water and the passing fishing boats that are part of daily life here.
The pier is easily reached from Highway 35 North and has parking, restrooms, picnic tables, and a small shop for bait and supplies. Bring sun protection, plenty of water, and your own fishing gear to make your visit more comfortable.
The pier is managed by a private concessionaire even though the bay is state-owned, creating an unusual operating arrangement. It is one of the few spots on the South Texas coast where you can fish around the clock during the summer months.
